Subject:Oncology Massge education

Hello: I will be graduating on October 22, 2010 as a massage therapist in Michigan. I plan on getting additional education in oncology massage as I have had cancer three times and I know the value of massage theraphy. There was not much out there when I went through surgery and my treatments so I am experiencing difficulty with scar tissue, etc. I want to be out there educating people about oncology massage and I want to learn everything I can. I am looking into the program at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oaks, MI Judy Gilchrist@comcast.net

Hello from Boise, Idaho. The desert scenes turn brown with the 100+ heat and the people begin to spend more time in the mountains or shut inside their homes. I just took the first course from Gayle MacDonald in Portland and am still floating back to earth.

My clientele who have experienced a "new approach" have slowly given me feedback and say this "the molasses version of massage is very thick, sweet, and enriching." So far, no complaints about the pressure [keeping at 3 -until we inch up.]... fun stuff.

Decided to find and see what this site has to offer. Are there any other students in the Boise area? I am wondering how to make a local network or join a current networking group. Contact me if you are interested.

Thanks,

Hélène

I'm so grateful for this site. I'm a massage student at Oregon School of Massage. I just finished a class with Gayle MacDonald, Massage for clients living with cancer. I'm sure this is the direction I want to go, and would appreciate any direction or information anyone has to offer. I plan on continuing on to the oncology massage certification that the Perigrine Institute offers. Thank you to anyone who throws any information my way.

Last month I completed Tracy Walton's 3 day intensive course: Caring For Clients With Cancer: Simple Steps to Safe, Effective Massage Therapy. In 3 weeks I will complete the 12 additional massage volunteer hours required by the organization which hosted Tracy. I am honored to know how to skillfully apply touch to this particular population and work to debunk the myths surrounding massage and cancer metastasis. I am looking forward to going on to get certified in lymphedema treatments through the Norton School.
My Aunt and my mother were both diagnosed with breast cancer within 6 months of each other 5 years ago. They are my inspiration for this journey in my massage career. Thank you!

I attended nursing school for a bit but was turned off by the hospital industry as a whole. I've always had an interest in alternative therapies and believe they are helpful in many ways. I am looking to enroll in an oncology massage program in the Charlotte, NC area.
